  • answer file and iso but no RIS??

    newbie checking in with my first question !!

    Is it possible to provision an new vm windows box by using an answer file and iso image but no ris server?

    What version of VMware? It's all in the details you know.

    With most, for example, you can just mount the cd image and boot it to install.
    The answer therefore is YES.

      esx 3.5 update 2.

      I tried searching for the article on howto use an answer file with an iso to have an unattended install but no luck. 1 of the options i looked at was the customization specification but not yet sure howto integrate (if at all possible) the two for an unattend install.

          In this case, a VM is no different than a physical machine. Do as you wish. Mount the .ISO file into the virtual CD/DVD-ROM drive of the VM and perform your build. If your answer file is on a floppy disk or in image format, mount the floppy into the virtual floppy of the VM.
