  • Trouble installing SCSI driver in Virtual XP machine

    Greetings,

    This is my first time working with VM Ware.

    I cloned my XP machine with the Converter
    and ran it on my iMac.

    I have 2 drives on the physical machine
    that were both cloned.

    The VM Fusion only recognizes my C drive.

    I get this message on start up:

    Your guest operating system is Windows XP and you have one or more virtual SCSI devices installed in your virtual machine.

    Please be aware that Windows XP does not support the BusLogic SCSI adapter that VMware Fusion currently uses for its virtual SCSI devices. If you have not done so already, you will need to install our driver in the virtual machine. You can download the driver from our Web site at "http://www.vmware.com/info?id=43".
    Click OK to continue or Cancel to abort.

    I downloaded the driver (vmsci-1.2.0.4.flp),
    but I can't figure out how to install this driver??

    Here is the .vmx file:

    config.version = "8"
    virtualHW.version = "6"
    memsize = "992"
    MemAllowAutoScaleDown = "FALSE"
    MemTrimRate = "-1"
    displayName = "aws3"
    guestOS = "winXPHome"
    floppy0.present = "TRUE"
    floppy0.fileName = "A:"
    floppy0.startConnected = "FALSE"
    sound.present = "TRUE"
    sound.filename = "-1"
    sound.autodetect = "TRUE"
    usb.present = "TRUE"
    ethernet0.present = "TRUE"
    ethernet0.addressType = "generated"
    ethernet0.connectionType = "nat"
    ethernet1.present = "TRUE"
    ethernet1.addressType = "generated"
    ethernet1.connectionType = "nat"
    scsi0:0.present = "TRUE"
    scsi0:0.fileName = "aws3.vmdk"
    scsi0:1.present = "TRUE"
    scsi0:1.fileName = "aws3 (2).vmdk"
    pciBridge0.present = "TRUE"
    tools.upgrade.policy = "useGlobal"
    ehci.present = "TRUE"
    ide0:0.present = "TRUE"
    ide0:0.autodetect = "TRUE"
    ide0:0.filename = "auto detect"
    ide0:0.deviceType = "atapi-cdrom"
    ide0:1.present = "TRUE"
    ide0:1.autodetect = "TRUE"
    ide0:1.filename = "auto detect"
    ide0:1.deviceType = "atapi-cdrom"
    scsi0.present = "TRUE"
    scsi0.virtualDev = "buslogic"
    buslogic.noDriver = "FALSE"

    The virtual machine runs alright, but I have
    many programs & files on the D drive that I need to access.

    Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted!

    Thanks so much,

    z

    The .flp file is a virtual floppy image. Add it in the VM configuration settings and it will be as if you have (virtually) inserted a floppy disk into the floppy drive which contains the BusLogic driver.

    When you are finished loading the driver, be sure to remove the virtual floppy from the VM configuration.

    As I am not a MAC or Fusion user, I'm not sure what is forcing you to use the BusLogic driver but the better performing virtual SCSI controller for XP is going to be the LSILogic controller. However, both will work.
