    Hi,
I was able to clone 2 virtual disk (created in VMware Workstation) called app-0.vmdk and app.vmdk using vmkfstools.
Instead I'm not able to clone a virtual disk called app (2).vmdk because I receive this error:
    Syntax error: "(" unexpected
    Where I'm wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

Wrap the file name in quotation marks ""

As jason said the ( in the file name is causing the problems.

Either rename the file to remove the ( or wrap the whole filename in quotation marks - "app (2).vmdk"

Renaming the file would cause additional problems without taking care of the dependencies. The file name is going to be referenced in the .vmx file and also the disk descriptor file if one exists. If the VM is in snapshot mode, more problems. Best not to rename the file.

          Re: vmkfstools

I wrap the file name (not the extension) in quotation marks and it works.
          Many thanks.
