      Hi DYansy

Thanks for the responce, kindly see the article on below vmware link (page 38, table 45)
      http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi35_san_guide.pdf

Acording to this document MD3000i has only iSCSI software initiator not the hardware initiator. I am not getting this point can you explain..

      thanks

        Re: Powervoult md3000i

the MD box is a target, not initiator

in iSCSI world, the client (server connecting to the SAN) is called initiator, and the server (the SAN providing storage services) is called target

the ESX server has iSCSI software initiator.
the MD3000i server as iSCSI target

nice link for setting the MD3000i up with MS iSCSI initiator

under ESX, the guide to follow is here:

          Thanks DYasny

Thanks for excellent stuff, i have read the both document, now the last question

if we take the example from this scenerio, Two ESX 3.5 one for hosting vm and second for high availability and fault tolerence and all database is on md3000i SAN, in this case i need to install MDSM on both the esx...i mean in case one server down.

          Thanks

            Re: Powervoult md3000i

MDSM is there for managing the MD3000i, meaning it can be installed on any workstation.
it is not required for accessing the MD. what you need on all servers is the MPIO driver (if your MD box is duplex) and to set up the iSCSI initiators.

btw, MDSM "talks" to the MD3000i box via the management ports, NOT the iSCSI ports. so any workstation on the same switch/VLAN/subnet should be able to run MDSM and manage the MD
