  • How to change ip address of ESX server 3.0

    Hi friends,

I am desperatly trying to change ip address of esx server 3.0. Alredy been to many sites and saw lot of linux commands, tryed some of them but just made a mess with VM. I have only one NIC and I am trying to move esx server to different subnet.
I am quite new to esx and specially in linux env. but I just wont give up and reinstall. How hard it could be to make this change?

    Thanks

      Tnx Dyasny,

After two days of troubleshoot I managed to change IP and to successfuly connect to VM.

      1. edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-vswif0
      2. edit /etc/sysconfig/network/
      3. edit /root/anaconda-ks.cfg
      4. esxcfg-vswitch -U vSwitch0 vminc0
      5. esxcfg-vswitch -L vSwitch0 vmnic0
      6. restart network service
      7. restart vgmt-vmware

Hope this will save time to some esx-ian.

      Cheers

Uhh... there's more to it than that if you're using CLI to do it.

You made life difficult for yourself by using the CLI (which was the old fashioned way of doing it in ESX 2.x and older - there were 5-6 files that needed to be updated including the http config files for the MUI).

As of ESX 3.x, the Service Console (COS) IP address can be changed using the GUI Virtual Infrastructure Client (a much better method that will also make the necessary changes to your COS vswif).

As a safeguard, I would change the IP address using the VIC to a different IP on the same subnet, then change it back to your desired IP address to ensure the VIC touches everything that needs to be touched as far as an IP change.

          You mean mgmt-vmware

The correct command will be more helpful to the esx-ian.
