  • Need help installing RHEL4 as guest on XP Host; using ISO images

Hi All, I am a completely newbie at VMware and have a working knowledge of Linux. We are trying to test Linux RHEL 4 as a guest on a XP host machine and I'm having some trouble to even get the OS installed on the guest VM.

    1. I have 3 iso images for RHEL4 on my local network at work and can access them without any issues, but when I give the first iso image, I get the error saying that there is no bootable cd in the drive.

    2. When I setup the hard drive using the Wizard, am allocating 4 GB for this and VMware shows that a .vmdk is being created. Do I still need to go into the BIOS by pressing F2 to change the CD drive to show up first when the OS install starts?

    3. I'm giving 1GB of memory at the time of VM creation, and NAT networking.

    What am I doing wrong?

Any help in figuring this out will be helpful.

yes you do have to manually make it boot from CD
are you sure the RHEL isos are bootable? try them on a test machine first.
if the ISO files are OK, try using an ISO mounting software to mount the ISOs and connect VMware to the virtual CD drive instead of the ISO directly
