  • Backing up a group of VMs using VCB

VMware's Virtual Machine Backup Guide states

"If you have multiple virtual machines to back up, group these virtual machines and manage that group as a single entity in your backup software by configuring DNS aliases for the proxy."

Can someone please tell me how to set up this alias?

    Thanks,
    Jon

Can you please tell us what backup software you're using first since that may provide great insight into the correct answer?

I am just trying to develop a script of my own to backup the VMs.

well, being that the quote you ripped from the "Virtual Machine Backup Guide: ESX Server 3.0.1 and VirtualCenter 2.0.1" under the section titled: Using VMware Consolidated Backup, you need to use VMware Consolidated Backup manager to achieve this.

i suppose it is possible to develop your own script also, but that is beyond the scope of the help i could provide.

maybe jason could answer your question... sorry.

My script uses the utilities provided as part of the VCB framework, but I am unable to determine how to set up the alias for a group of VMs.
