  • Redo files in GSX server

    Hi All,

I got a GSX server with a few VMs.

In one on the VM (SQL server) there are a lot of redo files that takes a lot of space (2GB to 500MB each).

Currently I'm not taking snapshot of the VM.

Can I delete the redo files?

    Thanks,

    Simon

Re: Redo files in GSX server

well, the files in question are from a snapshot. the changes made to the currently running VMs are being saved to these Edition.vmdk.REDO_a3xxxwhatever file and not the master.vmdk, so deleting these files may cause problems. im not sure, since i dont have a history of the server...

the proper method is to turn off the VM, then select the "remove" snapshot. this will commit the changes to the master.vmdk without loosing any data. repeat this process till you have committed all the REDO and your left with the VMs solo.

your REDOs can get very large. they can be larger than the allowable size of the original VM, since they contain the original plus the changes uncommitted...

    hope that helps.

      Thanks it worked !!!!

I shut down the vm, then right click and clicked on remove snapshot and after 20 minutes the redo files were gone.

than i disables the snapshot option and started the vm.

      Thanks again
