  • Encrypt virtual machine

    Hi all

We want to start using some kind of virtualisation technology on our laptops at work. The host OS does not store any sensitive information but the virtual machine will. What is the best way to encrypt this with and ensure it is safe?

The guest OS will be a server OS most likely Windows Server 2003.

    Thanks in advance

handle the encryption on the guest the same way you would if it was a physical host.

You could use something like TrueCrypt on the Host to create an encrypted volume with all the Virtual files you need.

What exactly are you afraid of? Loosing the laptops or they being stolen?
What is the host OS of your laptops?

Yes both of those things. The laptops will have lots of sensitive data stored on them. The host OS is Windows 7 Professional.

Lock the host HDD with Bitlocker. Your end-users are going to save confidential files on the host HDD anyway (either on purpose or by accident), so locking up just the virtual machines isn't going to do much good to you.
