  • Config Virtual Server as a separate lab

    Hello
I instaled vs and vpc in one machine for a learning lab.

I have ws2008 and win xp.

I have selected the local network because I want to prevent this machines specially the server 2008 making some mess in my network (WK2003).

How is the best practice to setup my server and wxp to be totally inofensive
to my network even the pc machine is connected to the local area network , and still be able to share some directory to the Virtual Network?

    Thanks

If you want to entirely separate the virtual machines from the physical network, than you should connect the virtual network to Internal network only.
The options are different in VirtualPC and Virtual Server, so please describe more the solution you want to reach.

      HI
I want to make a separated virtual network at my pc (wxp)
to prevent any unknow issue to the real net
My pc is connected to the our work network (AD w2003)

When I select the "networking setings" in my VM i can select
      1 not connected
      2 local only
      3 my card
      4 NAT
I select local only at my VMserver and VMpc but there didn't See each other

I don't get it... This is what I understood so far:
You have a PC with XP (version?), connected to network and part of an AD...
On it, you installed a virtualization product (which? Virtual Server? Virtual PC?) and on it you have two virtual machines, one with Windows Server 2008 and one with XP.
You want that those machines will be separated from the network, but be able to see each other. And you need a solution to some network share.

        So, did I understand right?

          Correct!
          Because I'm new to virtualization
I don't really know how to separate them and i dont want mess at the really network

Configure the VMs to use a "Local Only" network adapter type.
