  • Fedora Core 3 (and probably others) is working in VPC!

Got Fedora Core 3 working in VPC 2007, I wanted to share the juicy stuff for those who don't feel like Googleing. Did someone already post this?

My technique is to install normally, reboot the first time, finish that, reboot the second time BUT go into runlevel 3. I do so using the Super GRUB boot disk 0.9711. When in runlevel three, login as root. Use emacs /etc/X11/xorg.conf and change all display colour depths from "24" to "16". It will then boot properly.

    Code:
    TECHNICAL NOTE:
The reason this works is cause VPC doesn't support 15-bit or 24-bit colour modes, just 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32. Change the 24 to 16 and FC3 works properly.

this doesn't mean it doesn't boot, just means the xserver will not run.

and btw, have you heard Fedora is about to hit v9? why use v3?
