  • Cannot RDP to guest OS using virtual pc 2004

    Hi

I have installed virtual pc 2004 . I have several guest OS installed. the issue I am having is that I am not able to RDP to the guest OS. I have changed the network settings to Shared networking and to network card as well but still I could not get a valid ip address. When i ping the ip address of the guest OS from another computer , I get no reply. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I have even tried with virtual pc 2007 . no luck.
Any help from anybody will be highly appreciated.

    Thank You

What OS have you installed on the virtual machine?

Check firewall settings on both the guest and host machines

      Hi

Thanks for your reply. I have checked firewall on both OS and its off. I have installed windows server 2003 as guest OS in virtual pc. I would like to RDP to that OS from another computer.

      Thanks

Re: Cannot RDP to guest OS using virtual pc 2004

Where is the Windows 2003 Server picking up it's IP address from? and is it on the same subnet as your server i.e. 255.255.255.0?

I have a router than does all my DHCP and my main network is 10.1.1.x and my Virtual network is 192.168.0.x and my router has static routers to each network.

If you supply a bit more information we maybe able to help

        Thanks

That is an APIPA address so it isnt getting to see your DHCP server
Try a static IP in the same range as your real network, plus the same DNS server etc.

i manually assigned s static ip . now i am able to ping (and got reply ) from my host pc to the guest.
I am also able to ping from a remote machine to that guest machine but I am unable to RDP to it. any reason why ?

Does the logon screen for RDP come up, or does it not even get that far? Is there any type of firewall or NAT that may prevent RDP traffic?

Did you even try basic networking trubleshooting actions? Ping? Something?
                      Cheers,
