  • Release pass-through disk from Hyper-V for re-use

    Using Hyper-V on server 2012

I have a DC VM which has exclusive pass-thru access to a 2TB Partition, currently contains about 400GB

I'd like to free this up and reuse it on the HOST, but not sure of the process on how to do this.

I have converted the entire drive to vhdx (and also a full file sync, just in case...) and is stored on a NAS due to space limitations. I then removed the pass thru from the VM disk config but after this I am still unable to manage the disk through the host, still offline and greyed out options.

Could you please let me know what the next step is please?

Do you have the option to bring the disk online from the host? That would be the next step.

If the option to bring the hard drive online is grayed out, can you find a time to reboot the host?
