  • Unable to add IDE controller to Gen2 VM in Server 2012 R2

    I setup a new VM on this Server 2012 R2 x64,
I cannot add an IDE controller. It's not an option in the list.
I added a DVD drive to the SCSI controller but we know we cannot boot from it.
How to add IDE controller, so that I can add a virtual DVD drive and boot from ISO file??

FYI this problem only happens with Gen2 VMs - if I select Gen1, I get 2 IDE controllers

The question becomes: how to boot a Gen2 VM??? if you cannot have IDE controller, and if you cannot boot from SCSI controller??

With Gen 2 VMs you can boot from a SCSI HDD or DVD. Have you given it a go already and have an issue with it?
