  • 2003 Exchange on HyperV

    Hi Guys

There is some confusion over ďdoes HV (officially)support Exch 2003Ē.

Microsoft say any Virtualisation Platform that followed Virtual Server 2005 would support it, but the obviously donít explicitly mention Hyper-V.
Microsoft now donít seem to mention anywhere if they do/donít (officially) support it, probably because they class it as a retired product.

My experience is that it does without any issues.

Anyone know the official Microsoft line on this?

    Thanks

    PT

Although it works it's not supported. Only Ex2007 and above to my knowledge is supported on Hyper-V.

Microsoft as far as I know wil now support a product whether it is virtualised or not. It's more a question of whether Exchange 2003 is still supported.

That doesn't appear to be the case. The thread provides the same link i posted which only refers to Ex2007.

The products currently supported by Microsoft I would expect they would support in Hyper-V. Exchange 2003 isn't supported by them as a product as far as I know and will of course then not be supported in hyper-v.

Both Exchange 2003 std and ent have extended support until 2014.

See what you are saying. The link I provided says the same for extended support.

                cheers for the response guys.

                So...

is the final answer that Microsoft will not 'support' technical issues, but aside from that there is not technical reason why it should not work?

                Cheers

As pointed out, Exchange 2003 isn't officically supported but as far as I know, no technical reason why it wouldn't work. It depends on the features you are using as well.

It's just a case of testing this in your environment to see if it is found an acceptable performance.
