  • Idiot's guide to MS Hyper-V private cloud

Please forgive my lack of knowledge with MS virtualisation technologies, i am a long time VMware user.

So in a test lab to make a HA environment what do i need, and how many VM's will i need to do this on?
server 1. Hyper-v server - running XP as my test VM.
server 2. SCCM with SQL express, and VMM.
    server 3. Hyper-v second host.

is that it? and can the second server run all these roles?

    Hi,

The second server is a bit of a red herring, as for a lab (or even in production, I believe) you don't even need VMM as a physical - you could virtualise it, then easier seperate SCCM and VMM

You just need shared storage (physical or virtual), gigabit switch, and a few NICs in each host (sorry to be vague, but it varies depending on what you want to achieve: http://ramazancan.wordpress.com/2011...-are-required/)

All can run virtual. But if you want to cluster the hyper-v servers, and use shared storage, you need a domain controller to get the cluster up and running. The domain controller can be a virtual machine, but it needs no be outside of the cluster.
