    How can i do that?
what do i need to config?

i heard something about SID but I had no idea what's the point.

if you can clear things up for me i would appreciate it !

Re: join to domain (dc on other vm on same host)

As long as networking is working for both VMs (i.e. they can ping each other by netbios and fqdn) the process is identical to joining a physical machine to a physical DC

If you tell us which operating systems are involved, we can give more specific instructions.

Re: join to domain (dc on other vm on same host)

      thanks for fast reply

      I have a windows server 2008 R2 enterprise with hyper v
the hyper v have 2 Vms both are windows server 2008 R2 enterprise.
VM1 has active directory installed and a domain
pinging works cause i turned firewall off.
I try to join the domain on VM2 but it doesn't find anything if i recall.
when i get home I'll publish all the details.

joining domain doesn't require anything? like credentials?
so anyone who's on same network as me can do it?

Re: join to domain (dc on other vm on same host)

Sorry, didnt go into the detail.
Anyone who has a user account in the domain can (by default) join up to 10 PCs to the domain. As soon as they do that, they fall under management so the user may not have enough permissions to remove them!

On VM2, log on as a local administrator, then right click Computer and go to Properties
Click on Advanced Properties and go to the Computer Name tab and its there for you....
You will need to enter the credentials of a member of the domain on VM1

If it doesnt work, check VM2:
        a) has an IP address in the same subnet as VM1
        b) can Ping VM1 by name (VM1) and by fqdn (VM1.domain.com) -- use your real names!

Also, please check that on VM2's TCP/IP configuration, you have VM1 as primary DNS.
If after all these were checked and the problem is still not solved, please come back with the error message you receive (a screenshot will be best).
