  • Hyper-V and licencing

    Hello,

I have a question about the licensing on many virtual machines.

I will want to use one Office 2007 (government) in 20 virtual machines (windows xp pro) virtualised on hyper-v (Windows 2008 Datacenter). Is it possible to create a virtual machine master with :
    - One licence of windows XP PRO SP3 activated
    - One licence of Office 2007 or 2010 activated

Duplicating this master virtual machine. Of course, i want to use one licence of windows xp pro et on licence of office 2007 or 2010 for 20 virtual machines.

    Thanks for your reply.

    klm.

Provided you have an appropriate level of licensing, usually a volume license key, or whatever they've termed it this minute, this should be fine.

If you don't have a VLK, and you're only using a single license key, even if you have purchased 20 licences, I don't beleive you could do this. Each machine would need to be configured with it's own unique license.

      thx tehcamel for you reply.

If i well undesrtand, i must used :
      -VLK licencing
      OR
      -One licence by virtual machine

I can't use the same licence for all virtual machines ?

For example one licence OEM for 20 virtual machines.

No. You absolutely cannot use the same license for multiple virtual machines.

Either it's volume licensing (mak, kms, vlk, whatever you end up with)
or a single license unique to each installation.
