  • Shared folders with Hyper-V installed

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine with shared folders. All works well and folders can be accessed from other computers. BUT when I install the Hyper-V role the folders are inaccessible. Hyper-V machines work perfectly but shared folders on host machine fail across network.

Both host and VMs can be pinged - it's just shared folders that fail!

I have removed the Hyper-V role and all is good again with shared folders!

I have tried using an NIC dedicated to Hyper-V and sharing one but still no luck. Can anyone please help.

    Thanks
    Steve

check that hyper-V doesn't change firewall settings.. ?

of course.. after typing that, I did some quick research, I found the following post for you:

Thanks for that but my problem is with shared folders on the Server 2008 R2 host machine not on the Hyper-V machines themselves. The windows firewall is not running on the host machine or on the domain as a whole.

I get that. At no time did you mention guests, and at no time did I understand you to be speaking about guests.

Which is why I linked you to an article specific to the HyperV role, and not the guests.

        You're welcome.

Windows firewall is ON by default. Have you turned it OFF?
Have you tried to share again the same folder after you install the Hyper-V role?
Do by any chance is the network defined as "Public"?
Please check in Network and Sharing Center that the Network Discovery is set to ON (with the Hyper-V role installed).
BTW, I am using Windows Server 2008R2 with Hyper-V role and have no problem sharing folders.
