  • Hyper-V installation failed - 2008R2

    Hello,

One of my Windows Server 2008R2 is having some problems with the installation of Hyper-V.
So for a note, VMWare Server 2.0 was before installed but removed now.

The installation of the role goes without any problem. After the first reboot, the system boots fine, opens the server managment page and says he has to reboot again. After the second reboot the server managment page opens again and displays the error that the installation has tried 3 times and failed.

In the error logs you can't find quite much, only in the application log there is an error code (2 entrys):
Update Microsoft-Hyper-V-Management-Clients of package Microsoft-Hyper-V-Management-Clients-Package failed to be turned on. Status: 0x80004005.
    and
Update Microsoft-Hyper-V of package Microsoft-Hyper-V-Package failed to be turned on. Status: 0x80004005.

    Tried googling without any result.

    Anyone has an idea?

VMWare Server 2.0 does not require hardware-assisted virtualization, but Hyper-V does. So, the fact that VMWare Server was installed does not mean much...
What CPU do you have in your server? Does it support hardware-assisted virtualization? You can check in this thread if it does.
If it does support hardware assisted virtualization, is it enabled in the BIOS?

Yes all the options needed are enabled in the bios (intel vxt and etc)
The hardware does support it because a half year ago I did a test with hyper-v on that specific server. Had to many probles, did a reinstall and installed vmware server on it...
      anyone has another idea?

Is the VMWare Server still installed on the server? If it is, try a clean install and re-try installing Hyper-V again.
What version of 2008R2 you have installed?
