  • Network problems dhcp <-> static ip, Linux (Ubuntu Server) in Hyper-V

    Hello,
I got a problem with Linux Ubuntu Server as the guest OS and Hyper-V.
I installed ubuntu as a virtual server with the legacy network adapter . Ubuntu starts with DHCP and network is accesible. However when I change the network settings in linux to a static ip address, the network interface disappears completely from linux and network is not accesible. "/sbin/ifconig" will not show the eth0 interface anymore. Getting back to DHCP shows eth0 again. This behaviour is very strange, even a bad configured network card should show up as eth0.

Any idea how to get the static ip adress going? Maybe a hardware issue or some hidden Hyper-V settings?

The server is a Dell box with following adapter:
Intel Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter

    Any help appreciated

    Hi artesco,

You seems not to be the only one having a problem with DHCP & networking over MS Hyper-V. I have seen a post earlier on how to fix DHCP & networking issues on Hyper-V at: DHCP is not working on MS Windows 2008 Hyper-V

I am no Hyper-V expert by any means, but thought that might help.

    Enjoy,
    Erick
