  • Connecting Core server to EMC

    Hi,

I need to attach a EMC CX-XXX storage to a Windows 2008 Core machine that will be a Hyper-V machine.

I've tried everything including research on the net without any solutions.

Can anyone post the steps i should do in order to configure this storage to the Core machine ? (including the tools to use).

    Thank you for any help

What are you using to connect to to the EMC? Fiber / iScsi?

The servers are connected to the EMC switches with Fiber.

The HBA on the server are EMULEX.

      Thank you for further assistance.

Have you presented the LUN to the Server?

Once you have - you most probably would be able to create a new volume with the diskpart command.

If not I think you can remotely manage the server (if you have opened it up in the firewall) with a regular MMC and add the storage that way.

Re: Connecting Core server to EMC

          Well,

We have someone that is incharge of the Storage configurations, and i what to think he made all the configurations.

Should i have the iScsi initiator service running on the core server ? should the "microsoft fibre channel platform registration" service runninig ?

Is there anything i need to configure on the core server to enable it working with the storage ? (any MS service, PowerPath, HBAnywhere etc).

          Thank you.

Assuming that the Navisphere Server Agent is installed and running on the Server Core Installation...and you know the WWN's of the HBA's you should be able to map the HBAs to the fabric on the switches and add the host into Navisphere.

From there you should be able to expose the LUNs to the host...reboot the machine and initialize the disks.

As mentioned below, you can manage the new disks either with diskpart or through remote management.
