  • Few question regarding hyper v server

    Hi

I just a few quick questions about hyper v server:

    1. why isnt usb supported under a vm?

    2. what do people do for backup within a vm?

    3. how do i go about adding a usb external and then using volume shadow copy to backup vm's and vhd's?

    4. if i wanted to use say backup exec inside an sbs 2008 vm and i want to use the exchange agent for message level backup would i backup it up to a vhd attached to the vm which is in turn backed up by the external connected to the hyper v layer?

    5. if i wanted to use a tape device or auto loader how to i gain access to it from a vm?

    thanks guys

    Some answers:

USB is not supported. Why? [email protected].

Backup inside a VM is done exactly like in a real server, same backup tools, same methodology. The only issue you might have is making the OS inside the VM to recognize and work with your backup hardware.
