  • p2v conversion for Hyper-V

    Hi ,

We are using Windows 2012 and Hyper-V Role is installed.

Now I am trying to convert one physical machine with windows 8.1 installed on it and want to migrate it inside the HyperV server and use it as a standard image to make more VDI.

I Installed the MVMC 3.0 in windows 8.1 and at the end of the wizard I am getting error called name space does not exist..

after making a google search I found some of the links

    https://www.google.co.in/?gfe_rd=cr&...hine+converter

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com...com?forum=MVMC

Now , can anyone tell me , how to install those BITS components on windows 8.1 , its not inside the IIS Server components...Do i need to install it on my Hyper-V Server

Also , I tried VMWare VCenter Standalone converter but Hyper-V does not support it...so can anyone suggest some other good utilities for Hyper-V environment...

    thanks....

BITS is not installed. BITS is a default service and has been since at least Server 2003 days.

    Check the service is running.

Did you find that using Wullie? My, what a useful search tool it is for people who work with networks.
          1 1 was a racehorse.
          2 2 was 1 2.
          1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
          2 2 1 1 2

I went here https://au.yahoo.com/?p=us and entered Google in the text field next to Search and then clicked search and low and behold this new website appeared

I use disk2vhd tool but after that when I try to use that migrated virtualized image to create more vdi getting error as my vm is not generalized...

                      https://cloudray.wordpress.com/2013/...p-generalized/

So , I try to do as per that instruction but I get fatal error after some time...and again not able to create vdi from it...

                      what could be the reason...

                      please help..

                      Thanks,

You're getting a "fatal error" when you run sysprep? What is the exact error message? Does the error log (setuperr.log) contain any useful information?

A number of different issues can cause a sysprep generalization to fail. For instance, the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service can cause this to happen, and also sysprep will fail on any Windows installation that's previously been upgraded or repaired using the in-place upgrade/repair procedure.

                          Hi ,

I am doing a sysprep on a vm which was earlier a physical machine...

Is it the reason , I am getting a fatal error ..

Is it not possible to run the sysprep on vm which was converted from physical machine...

                          please help...

                          Thanks,
