  • Determine the RDP client version of connected clients

    Hi all,

We have a variety of different thin clients and PCs connected to our Windows Server 2012 R2 network. Some of the thin clients are newer models, and as a result I can find out from online resources which RDP version they're using, which I'm trying to compile a list of for future upgrades, compatibility, etc.

However, some of them are proving impossible to find out which RDP version they're using as there's just not enough information available. Is there any way to find this out from the server side for connected clients/sessions, either from the command line, the UI or a third-party tool?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

You can find it in Terminal Services Manager or Remote Desktop Services Manager (depending on what TS/RDS server you're running).

What you want to do is find the client information/status and look at the build number. AFAIK the following build numbers are accurate:

    Build 2195 - RDP 5.0
    Build 2600 - RDP 5.1
    Build 3790 - RDP 5.2
    Build 6000 - RDP 6.0
    Build 6001 - RDP 6.1
    Build 6002 - RDP 6.1
    Build 7600 - RDP 7.0
    Build 7601 - RDP 7.1
