  • USB problems after dual booting from xp into 12r2

MSI z97, i7-4790 running windows XP Pro, with Vista Starter, and Server 2012 r2 Storage in dual dual boot.

On my main os XP, my usb 2.0 dvd player shows up and works fine in windows explorer and device manager. I reboot to Vista where it shows up and works fine. Back to XP, still there still working. Boot to 12r2 where it works fine. Back to XP and it is gone. My dvd player does not show up, does not work. Back to Vista, it works fine. Back to 12r2 it works fine. Back to XP, still gone. Reboot, gone. Back to not XP to reimage XP, then back to XP and there it is again working fine. Back to 12r2, works fine. Back to XP, gone, gone, gone for good. Reboot, gone. Reboot, gone. Going to Vista never kills it. Nothing changes it. Back to either other though, there it is and working fine.

Is 12r2 killing my XP usb 2.0 dvd player simply by booting to it? All other usb functions work fine. Ideas? Questions?

What happens if you shut down rather than reboot?
Does changing the USB port have any effect?

I doubt if it is a particular OS causing the problem, more likely to be something in the BIOS
