  • Hyper-V win2k12r2 VM not applying GPO

    Hello Team,

I want ask if anyone have run into this issue before where GPO will not apply to Windows 2012r2 VM that hosted on Hyper-V.

Here is the situation I'm running into:

I have a GPO do a basic stuff. like applying wallpaper.
The windows 2012r2 is a RDs where user logon via RDP.
The GPO apply to the OU that have windows2012r2 reside on. The Remote desktop/the console will not apply the GPO settings. BUT
If I placed another computer in the same OU and logon as the same user. The desktop (win7) will take the GPO settings.

I have been spinning my wheels and I couldnt get thiw Win2k12r2 RDP VM to take GPO settings. AND I do have a "Loop Back proccessing setting" to replace and merge. it make no difference.

    Thanks
    HN

Check in the GPO mmc for events.
A VM does not ignore GPO's.

Also gpresults /z on the target as well as GPO Results in the MMcC will give you an output report on what's working.
Also check the server event logs.

Yep.. I have been down that road. gpresult /z, rsop from gpo etc.. I just havent able to draw the conclusion. I think there is more to my network that I need to look into deeper.

      thanks

        Is UAC disabled or enabled?

Do something simple with a GPO.
Drop a folder path, change a setting (remove mspaint)

Then start working out from there.

GPResult should be where you start troubleshooting.

run the following on the 2012 server:
            Code:
            gpresult /h %userprofile%\Desktop\results.htm
That will dump a webpage result to the desktop. Open the results.htm in Internet Explorer. Go through to see what GPOs are applied and which aren't. It should indicate why a GPO wasn't applied.

Then open up the event viewer and look for User Profile and Group Policy events to track down any issues.

It could be that the settings you're trying to apply aren't compatible with 2012. The GPResult should tell you that.
