  • Re-Installing Active directory in the same server

    Hello

    I hope you can help.

I have a client with four sites and each have local server with AD/DNS on it.

I had to remove AD from one of the local server to resolve issues with DFS.

I wanted to find out if it ok to add the AD role back on to the same server.

Would there be any issues by doing this, anything i should check first.

    many thanks

Re: Re-Installing Active directory in the same server

Check there are absolutely no traces of the old server in Active Directory ( Metadata Cleanup for more info) before reinstalling the role.

If a metadata cleanup is needed and the old DC is force-removed, it will not be possible to re-promo it - format and reinstall windows first

Re: Re-Installing Active directory in the same server

      Hi

The AD was originally removed using server manager and its still a healthy server functioning as a File Server and DHCP.

So meta data cleanup would not be necessary.

But do I have to worry about changing the hostname of the server.

      many thanks

no, yoiu shouldn't need to change the name of the server

just to be sure though, check metadata
