  • adding a dc to an existing forest

    greetings!

Cant connect to an existing Windows 2012 forest. Im using DCPROMO

ADDC for the domain could not be contacted.

Im adding a Windows 2008R2as a DC to a existing Windows 2012R2 DC thru VPN
I have a Gateway to Gateway connection using QNO router

Windows 2008R2 server (192.168.2.200) can ping the QNO/Router (192.168.1.1) of the other network but cannot ping the Windows 2012R2 (192.168.1.200)

What am I missing? I did not encounter this in my Windows 2008R2 Forest.

    Other settings:

    Windows 2012R2
    ip - 192.168.1.200
    gw-255.255.255.0
    gw-192.168.1.1
    dns-192.168.1.200

    Windows 2008R2
    ip - 192.168.2.200
    gw-255.255.255.0
    gw-192.168.2.1
    dns1-192.168.1.200
    dns2-192.168.2.200

Re: adding a dc to an existing forest

The servers are in 2 different subnets, presumably with a VPN or something between them.
Although the routers should do it, I have found you need to add routes on both servers
In an elevated command prompt, run (for the 1.x server):
    ROUTE ADD 192.168.2.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 -P
(and similar for the other server)

Confirm each can ping the other by both NetBIOS and FQDN and all should be OK
