  • Migrating 2003 SBS to 2012 Standart.

hi guys. i started migrating a sbs 2003 to 2012 standard.
i joined 2012 to the domain and did promote to a domain controller. i gave 2012 all fsmo rules. but i still have problems.
i get advertising error and sysvol replication errors.

dcdiag attached : old server perfectsrv
    new server perfectserver.

thank you all very much for the help.

Re: Migrating 2003 SBS to 2012 Standart.

because it's SBS, you can't just give the FSMO roles.
you'll have to fully remove SBS from the environment then seize the roles.

    from your dcdiag:

    Starting test: Advertising
Warning: DsGetDcName returned information for \\perfectsrv.Perfect.local, when we were trying to reach PERFECTSERVER.

    Check DNS.
looks like PErfectSErver could be configured to point to itself as DNS Server, but doesn't have DNS installed/configured ?

AFAIK that isn't correct, you can gracefully transfer the roles as normal but after 7 days the SBS server will throw a strop unless you install the appropriate hotfix that gives you the 21 day grace period.

I'd suspect you have an issue on the old server, check the FRS logs for Journal Wrap errors. If that's what the problem is the event logs tell you how to fix it, about the only error you will ever see on a Windows server that contains the solution.
