  • High cpu usage on 2012 R2 RDSH server when playing HTML5 videos

Whenever someone plays a HTML5 video in IE11 on a Server 2012 R2 remote desktop session host server in our environment, said user's session will utilize at least 15-25% cpu usage for only that one IE11 process. Is there anyway to prevent this from occurring?

If two users play a video simultaneously, they will utilize 30-50% of the CPU, and 2GB ram on just those two IE11 processes.

I only see this problem on 2012 R2 RDSH servers, not 2008 R2 RDSH servers.

Please try connecting to this site, and then let the video ad in the upper left corner play.

What sort of cpu usage do you see on your server?
