  • Unable to add Remote Access role to a Windows Server 2016 Standard domain controller

    I have a domain server with Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition. When I try to install the remote access role with DirectAccess and VPN (RAS) services, the procedure aborts showing the following error (original error messages are in Spanish; sorry if my translation is not the best):

    Error in the request to add or remove features on the specified server. Error in the installation of one or more roles, roles or features. Components store is damaged. Error: 0x80073712

    After searching for information on several forums about the error 0x80073712, I decided to run the sfc/scannow command to obtain the following result:

    Starting test system. This process will take some time. Starting the examination of the system test phase. Completed 100% checking. Windows resource protection found corrupt files and was unable to fix some of them. For more details, see Windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log CBS.log for example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Please note that is not currently supported logon in offline installation scenarios

    Since it found corrupt files that could not repair, I ran the DISM.exe command/online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and got the following result:

    Version deployment image servicing and management tool: 10.0.14393.0
    Version of image: 10.0.14393.0
    Store components can be repaired.
    The operation completed successfully.

    Then ran the command DISM.exe/online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and got the following result:
    Version deployment image servicing and management tool: 10.0.14393.0
    Version of image: 10.0.14393.0
    [==========================100.0%================== ========]
    Error: 0x800f081f
    No source files are located.
    Use the "source" option to specify the location of the files needed to restore the feature. To get more information on how specify a location of origin, refer to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077. The DISM log file is located in C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

    Then, I mounted a Wim image from DVD installation of the operating system using the DISM.exe /Mount-Image command /ImageFile:C:\Win\sources\install.wim /index:1 index: \mount obtain the following result:

    Version deployment image servicing and management tool: 10.0.14393.0
    Mounting the image
    [==========================100.0%================== ========]
    The operation completed successfully.

    With the Wim image mounted, I ran the Dism /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c: \win\mount\windows /LimitAccess command with the following result:

    Version deployment image servicing and management tool: 10.0.14393.0
    Version of image: 10.0.14393.0
    [===========================98.5%================== ======= ]
    Error: 0x800f081f

    Use the "source" option to specify the location of the files needed to restore the feature. For more information about how to specify a source location, see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077.
    The file of registration of DISM is located in C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

    In short, seems to be a problem of corruption with the components store that prevents remote access role installation and that can not be solved with the sfc command or with the dism command. Someone could give me an idea of what else I can do. Thanks
Working...
