  • Not booting - preparing to configure windows

    Hello All:

We have a Windows Server 2008 Std. R2 running on an IBM system.

This morning suddenly the server stopped booting and wouldn't proceed to the credentials screen. Was just stuck at the place "preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer".

    We did the following:
    - did a hard reboot but id didn't work..same screen as above
    - tried to boot into safe mode but somewhere it'd reboot the system and then back to
    above screen in normal mode

    Please help....urgent..

    Regards

Re: Not booting - preparing to configure windows

Had you patched it just before the problem appeared?
How long did you give it before hard rebooting - patches can sometimes take a long time to apply

    How good are your backups?

    Two thoughts:
    1) normal reboot and give it at least 2 hours
    2) Safe mode with networking and try to patch from Microsoft Update (not a WSUS server) - you may need to start the Windows Update Service https://social.technet.microsoft.com...orum=w7itproui
