  • Uptime monitor

I am looking for an uptime monitor with SMS service that allow me to set hours where I don't want to be notified even if the server is down (just to sleep at least 4-5 hours without hassles).

Do you know a company that offer this kind of service?

    Thanks,

    Alberto

ok, well, firstly, a ping doens't tell you if a host is up and working correctly.
Nor does it tell you how long things have been up for.

Nor does it actually answer the question I Asked.

          Re: Uptime monitor

          Hi Tehcamel,

Recently I was unable to connect to SBS2011 through http://remote.company.com, the same was true for http://remote.company.com/owa because after a reboot at late Friday I left the office without checking that the server was up and running correctly. This also means I lost some important e-mail messages. I would like to be notified immediately for future situations like this one.
Yes, ping is probably not enough to verify this. I answered to quickly in my last post.

          Thanks,

          Alberto

            https://www.pingdom.com/

            or GFI max.

however, unless your server was down for >3 days, it's unlikely you lost emails, unless your MX records are drastically misconfigured.

emails will keep attempting to send for 3 days, even if they can't reach the remote server.

Really? Is this true for all mail servers in the world? I spent so much time configuring a secondary MX server...

I will check www.pingdom.com even if it look a bit expensive to me.

              Thanks,

              Alberto

                Re: Uptime monitor

In general mail servers keep retrying for up to 48 hours before giving up - some may be longer and some shorter

                  Re: Uptime monitor

We use pingdom at work to monitor site up time and also user experience, logons SQL availability etc and its not that bad.
They have a free account that will monitor one test.

Then you can use Goole Docs to monitor the ping/ uptime
                  http://www.labnol.org/internet/websi...monitor/21060/

                  Its corny....but works.
You will need to restart the google script every now and then, but the cost is great!
