  • WSUS on Server 2008

I have a 2008 server configured with WSUS. I have a number of Windows 7 clients that will not check in and these clients report the Last Status as "Not yet reported." I have found documentation that indicates the reason for this is due to a version mismatch between the client and Update Services; if the client is running 3.2.7600.256 then Update Services must be at least 3.2.7600.251 to allow connectivity. I have applied KB2734608 and KB2828185 to the 2008 server, which should have brought Update Services to .262. If I click on the server name in the Update Services console and check the server version it does reflect 3.2.7600.262. However, if I click Help | About Update Services... it reports the version as 3.2.7600.226! Has anyone seen this issue, and/or have any idea how to get past it? The updated clients (.256) still will not check in so I have to assume the Update Services are still at .226.
I have attached PNG files of the Server Version and Help | About. Any assistance is appreciated.

      Re: WSUS on Server 2008

Attached is a copy of the WindowsUpdate.log from an affected client. To get this small log, I stopped the Windows Update service, renamed the log to .OLD to generate a new one, and restarted the service. Then I ran
      wuauclt /resetauthorization
      wuauclt /detectnow
      wuauclt /reportnow

      Some interesting bits:

Agent WARNING: WU client failed Searching for update with error 0x8007000e

Googling this error didn't produce a lot of useful information but I'll keep at it. Also,

Report CWERReporter::HandleEvents - WER report upload completed with status 0x8
Report WER Report sent: 7.6.7600.256 0x8007000e 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 Scan 101 Managed

Have you tried the MS troubleshooter? Reading the article at 'http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/windows-update-error-80070008-or-8007000e', this is an out-of-memory error, on the surface at least. The article recommends trying their troubleshooter, and it's a Win7 site.

        Worth a try.

Unfortunately these are POS terminals and do not have connectivity to the internet. I would have to isolate each terminal individually and there are too many for that to be a feasible approach unless it is a last resort. They do not have multiple language packs installed.

I guess I should have looked at the article further and downloaded the tool before replying. I will put the Windows Update Troubleshooter on one of the POS terminals and see what I get.
            Thanks for the suggestion.
