  • Two Nic card ip Issue

    Hi All,

    Operating system : windows 2008 r2


    Actually, windows 2008 r2 server has two ip address , that is one physical ip address and the virtual ip address. when i say virtual ip address is one which added in Advanced TCP/IP settings.So now i have two ip address in one Ethernet card tcp ip properties.

    Now the issue when i communicate with other computer which one will go as source ip address .Actually it is taking the virtual one, which i dont want or may be i need to change

    Note : when i query the DNS nslookup it has both ip address displayed


    In which consideration it is taking the ip address ? id it possible to control that

    if im understanding you correctly, that is what the metrics are for. you can use it to change and modify the order in which NICs are assigned...

    if you open up a command prompt, type: "netstat -rn" (without the quotes, but i think you knew that much, right? )

    you will get an output like this:

    yours may look different. as you might not have the same number of adapters as i do. you see i have a TAP VPN driver, my oracle VNICs, etc, etc...

    now take a look at THIS PAGE to see how to assign the metrics in the proper order, determined by you, not the guide. you will have to think for yourself unless his setup has the type priority you want...
