  • NLB configuration: IP address

    Hello guys,

    Windows Server 2008 R2.
I am configuring NLB between 2 nodes in unicast mode.

Each node has 2 NIC (subnet: 255.255.255 production, 255.0.0.0 Internal Comm).

    My question is:
During the NLB configuration it is asked:
    1) IP of the Host
    2) IP of the cluster

Which is the IP for the host? Subnet 255.255.255 or 255.0.0.0 ?
    Thanks

    Re: NLB configuration: IP address

Each member of the NLB cluster will have its own IP address e.g. 10.0.0.1 and the cluster will have a separate one

You have given subnet masks, not the IPs

Consult your network manager to find free IPs for the servers and for the cluster

      Re: NLB configuration: IP address

      Hello and thanks,
      to be clear:

      Host 1: NIC1 192.168.100.131 and NIC2 10.0.0.131 (LAN production)
      Host 2: NIC1 192.168.100.132 and NIC2 10.0.0.132 (Internal NLB)

      Now how to configure NLB:
For the first node (Host 1)

      Interface available: 192.168.100.131
      Dedicated IP address: ?

      Cluster IP: 192.168.100.130

I have read that for unicast mode it is necessary a second nic, but where to add the referring IP in the NLB configuration?
      Thanks
