  • Diagnostic SW

Just had someone put together and Dual Processor Server. They installed 2008 R2, but it just seems a little sluggish,
is there a good, easy-to-use, inexpensive Server SW & HW diagnostic/optimization solution someone might recommend?

I would like the diagnostic/optimization to Perform Server SW anaylsis/settings/optimization as well,

    thanks a bunch

    Re: Diagnostic SW

Perfmon is still in Windows and gives a lot of hardware and software diagnostics (but having expected values from a better performing server will help you interpret them).

Look at the "big 4" - processor, memory, networking and disk system first.

    Also check obvious things like:
Power plan in use is not slowing the processor (Power options)
All RAM is used (in BIOS and in MSConfig)
All processor cores are in use (BIOS and Task Manager)
Page file is suitably sized and static (System Properties)
If hardware RAID, drives aren't "rebuilding" (RAID Controller)
