  • Trouble when installing Windows Imaging Component

I need to install the Windows Imaging Component on a Windows Server 2008. I have tried to install the following:

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/downl...s.aspx?id=1385

When I ran the setup an error popped up saying:

'Setup could not find the update.inf file needed to update your system.'

    1) Does anyone know what the problem is?
    2) Is this compatible with Windows 2008 OS?
    3) Are WIC and WIM the same thing?

    Thanks and Regards.

Re: Trouble when installing Windows Imaging Component

    Hi,

First of all your link doesn't seem to go anywhere but I am guessing that it is the Downloads page for the Windows Imaging Component.

Q1: I have no idea what the problem is but answer to question 2 might be of help.

    Q2:Supported Operating System

    Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2 Datacenter Edition (32-Bit x86), Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (32-Bit x86), Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition (32-bit x86), Windows XP Service Pack 2
Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003
Taken from the downloads system requirements.

Q3: WIC and WIM files are not the same thing.

It might be worth letting us know what you are trying to achieve, particularly if you are getting WIC and WIM files confused.

    Cheers

    Jewen.

Apparently it is already in Server 2008 (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Downl...t-128368.shtml), so you might want to see if it is a feature you can enable
