  • Restore Points disabled - how to enable?

    Hi all,

Win7 clients. I have checked the PCs on my domain and they all report that restore points are disabled. I have no memory of setting up a policy to do this, and cannot find a GPO that would have done this.

So - are restore points automatically disabled on a domain? Had to ask.

Any way to determine why restore points are disabled?

What the proper way to enable them?

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi, Based on:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...e-1ae827bf1845

Any way to determine why restore points are disabled?
Maybe on the base image which was deployed to all the desktops system restore was disabled, there for all the deployed desktops have this configuration.
If it is from group policy you will see the message:
This message appears “System Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore, contact your domain Administrator”

What the proper way to enable them?
Either go to each and manually enable it, or change the local group policy using gpedit.msc.
Alternatively to use group policy you can try:
Create a test OU and create the GPO in the above url and link it to the Test OU. Place your test computer in the test OU and reboot it and log on. Check the results.
    Hope this helps.

I do tend to think 'outside the box' so others may not always share the same views.
