  • Bizarre folder lock on move issue

    Hi

    Server has directory structure e.g

    \\servername\DIR1\DIR2\DIR3
    >DIR4
    >DIR5
    >DIR6

Iif for example DIR4 is moved into DIR6 it works
Then if you move DIR5 into DIR6 (or any other) I get the message 'action cannot be completed file/folder is in use' however after waiting a random amount of time pressing try again it will work.

    However,

If i access it via c:\dir1\dir2\dir3 it works with no errors

Please note no one else has the files open

This is the only share on the server that has this issue.

I've disabled the antivirus and still the same issue occurs

are you using a security group to control access on the shares?

do you have thumbnails enabled on the client? disable thumbnail viewing and try again. go to folder options>view>advanced settings and find:Always show icons never thumbnails and check it. you will have to right click to preview now.

another thing is windows media player. if the network sharing service is running and there is media that has been itemized/cataloged by WMP, it may be using the file/folder.

you can also use something like tcpview/tcpcon and sysinternals process explorer to find the dll that is locked and troubleshoot this further if these arent the reason why.
its easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
