  • Changing a DC's IP

We need to change the IP addresses on our server as the current range clashes with others within the our global network.

We curreny have x2 DC's x1 exchange & a load of other VM's which need to be changed.

Does anyone know if I can change the IP address on a DC or will this cause issues with DNS, replication etc etc.?

Would I be better off moving the roles & demoting it, the last thing I want to do is mess up the entire network.

    How is DHCP being provided?

You need to do a bit of planning, but changing an IP range is not difficult.

    Roughly:
Reduce DHCP leases to very short (say 1 hour) well in advance of the operation (1/2 the previous lease duration)
    Plan the change during downtime
    Change IPs
Change DHCP scope to new IP range / DNS servers etc.
Double check fixed IPs (servers, printers, routers...) are changed
Make sure router forwarding (e.g. to Exchange) is fixed
    Relax....

Once you are sure the clients are working, put the (new) DHCP scope back to a reasonable lease length
