Have you tried using the correct username and password?? This should be your domain admin account password.

What format are you using for your username?? Typically this should be DomainNetbiosName\Username i.e. mydomain\administrator

        Re: windows Server 2008 problem

        Is this your only DC?
If not, consider flattening it and rebuilding as it sounds as if AD is %^&*ed

(Note that by "safe mode" I assume you mean DSRM?)

          not DSRM
          only safe mode only
          i have to DC dc1 and dc2
dc1 is pdc and sdc dc1 both are GC
          both not replicating
so i can logon on dc2 with same credentials but not on dc1

The fact that your AD servers are not replicating in its self is an issue.

I'm with Tom on this. Format and re-install the OS on DC1 and seize the FSMO roles on DC2. Do a metadata clean-up on DC2 and the promote DC1 again.

All these steps can be found on the main site.

There is an incredibly useful, but apparently unknown, website called which answers questions like that for you. You (or your butler) can go to it, type in a question, and see lots of links with the answer

15 seconds on it gave an excellent tutorial from the main site (valid for all AD versions): http://www.petri.com/transferring_fsmo_roles.htm

                  Re: windows Server 2008 problem

                  when i am using dsa.msc

operation masters giving main errors like

RID: the current FSMO holder could not be contacted

PDC: this computer is non-replication Partner do you want to continue with transfer ??

                  Infrastructure :

dc2 is GC the infrastructure operations master role should not be transferd to GC server

are you certain you want to transfer the infrastructure operations master role to this GC server

                      Recommendation:
On your "good" DC, check where the FSMOs are
If they are on the "bad" one, seize them on the good one
Flatten the bad one (full reformat and install of windows obviously backup / move any data first)
Metadata cleanup (on the good DC) to remove all traces of the bad one
Rejoin rebuilt "bad" DC to the domain (ideally under a different name) and DCPROMO
                      Check replication is working

                      Sorted...

                        netcom query /fsmo
                        Schema master dc1.domain.com
                        Domain naming master dc1.domain.com
                        PDC dc1.domain.com

                        Infrastructure master dc1.domain.com

                        and dc1 is on bad

                        dc2 is on good

Do you get the same result on both DCs?

You can still seize the FSMOs to any DC regardless of where they are now

both were GC and replicating each other but now dc1 is down which was holding all 5 roles
