  • Moving 2008 R2 DFS Volume On Same Server

    (6) Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Servers

I need to move the DFS data from these servers to a new volume on the same servers. Basically we are moving from a VMDK volume to a Raw Device Mapping (RDM) on our SANs.

I've seen numerous documents about moving from 2003 to 2008, but have not found much on moving data on the same server.

I have moved in the past by
    1) removing share as a DFS target (and from replication)
    2) Physically moved content
    3) re-added as share and re-enabled replication

    I have also heard about
    1) remove share as DFS target & delete
    2) Create empty target in new location
    3) Wait for replication to complete

    There are probably easier ways....

Thanks, do you know if Microsoft has a recommended way of doing this? I may have to open a ticket I guess.
