  • Configuring time service on server 2008

    Good day guys

I would like to kno if i need to configure the time service on server 2008 std other than the default settings? This will be for a PDC

And if so, what would be the best choice.

To have to pdc sync itself with the internal (BIOS) clock or
sync with an external time source?
    Pro's and Con's ?

I dont want to struggle with any time issues again showing up in the event log even after 2 or 3 years.

I have done some reading and ended up at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042
    May I follow this route?

    thanks
    H

I always go for the external sync -- normally against pool.ntp.org servers following the instructions on the KB you posted.

Don't bother using time.microsoft.com as it often lives in a parallel universe of its own with different clocks to the rest of us

Thank you Ossian. As always, good advise from you and from the forum off course.

I did manage to find a suitable ntp time source in my country.
      Thanks again
