  • DNS Errors 404, 407, 408

    Hello,

I came in work this morning and people were telling me that they could not log into there computers and getting error network resources not available. A little more investigation I found that the only people affected were people running Windows 7 on their PC's. We have one DC running windows server 2008 r2, running bothe the DNS service and the DHCP service on the same server.

Looked in the error log, and I received three DNS errors shortly after it rebooted at 3am this morning. DNS Error 404, 407, and 408. I will post the entire error messages below my message. I ended up rebooting the server and after the reboot everything seemed to be working ok.

I know it is working ok now and no problems, I would just like to know what is going on to prevent it from happening again. The only thing I have found when searching for the cause of the issue is some people were multihoming which I am not doing at all, and never have done with this DC. I have multiple NIC's on this server but the ones that I am not using are disabled.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Description:
The DNS server could not open socket for address 10.1.120.5.
Verify that this is a valid IP address for the server computer. If it is NOT valid use the Interfaces dialog under Server Properties in the DNS Manager to remove it from the list of IP interfaces. Then stop and restart the DNS server. (If this was the only IP interface on this machine and the DNS server may not have started as a result of this error. In that case remove the DNS\Parameters\ ListenAddress value in the services section of the registry and restart.)

If this is a valid IP address for this machine, make sure that no other application (e.g. another DNS server) is running that would attempt to use the DNS port.
