  • NTFS/Share Permissions - Need Move Permission

In a Windows domain that started with a Windows 2003 standard server (32bit) that had multiple shares. We installed a new Windows 2008 R2 64 bit server and copied the shares to it. The original shares on the 2003 server were unshared and allowed to remain there just in case we missed something.

One share is a problem because of what management needs. This share is meant to be a one way data vault meaning files can be added to it by any authenticated user, but never deleted by anyone except the domain admin. The users normally create files on their desktops (Win XP (32 bit)/Win7 64 bit) in Office 2007/2010/Adobe Acrobat and them move or paste the file to the root of the share or any folder within it. That security is setup and working. The problem is they also need to move a file from the share root or folder within it to any other location within that share. I have not been able to provide that functionality without allowing them full control of the share which also allows them to delete ay folder or file. This eliminates all the security for the company. When employees had full security to the share, they accidentally lost files which I had to restore from backup.
