  • Hyper-V Local Connection Only DNS not communicating

I have a laptop for training purposes only. I have installed Server 2008 enterprise. I have installed Active Directory, DNS, and DCHP. I then created a virtual hard drive and machine in Hyper-V. I installed Server 2008 on this drive as well. I set the tcp/ip connections statically and I pointed the dns of the virtual machine back to the DNS server. However, it only ever gets a local connection. When I try to repair settings I get Cannot communicate with DNS server 192.168.1.3. Yes that is my DNS server. I have configured my virtual switch to be external. I have registered my DNS as well. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing?

    Here are my configurations:
    HyperV server running Server 2008:
    IP 6 disabled
    IP4
    Address 192.168.1.33
    Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.3
    On my DNS server
    Local Area Connection
    IP 6 disabled
    ip4 192.168.1.3
    mask 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.3
    Virtual Network
    IP6 disabled
    ip4 192.168.1.7
    mask 255.255.255.0
    gateway 192.168.1.1
    dns 192.168.1.3

Can you please check the network settins for hyper V? You have set networking to external but can you ping it, try changing it to internal and try it.
