  • Windows Server 2008 does not allow me to install programs

I have installed a virtual machine with Windows Server 2008 DataCentre, and, somehow noticed that when trying to install Windows Installer 4.5 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=8483), which is a pre-requisite for SQL Server 2008 Full Edition, an error is being displayed reading: This option requires elevation. I have administrator rights on the local machine.

    Why does this happen?

    UAC is turned on.

Run the installer as the Administrator

Just in case, then one option is to right click the exe file and you should see run as administrator. Having administrative rights on the machine doesn't mean it will run automatically by double-clicking.
