  • DNS vs WINS

    Hi All,

Currently i have adsvr01 [primary dc] and adsvr02 [secondary dc] and invsvr [application svr]
both dc are running on W2008R2 and invsvr is running on w2003std.
previous system admin configure the invsvr to manage WINS & DHCP.
Now the problem is, we want to get rid of the WINS since wins is an old service. I've tested to remove wins on the vlan on the dhcp scope and when a computer try to join a domain i received error as per attached.Thanks.

    Re: DNS vs WINS

Use the DNS FQDN to join the domain instead of the NetBIOS name.

            hi andy,

it works when i applied the registry on one desktop but how about larger network where i need to prepare a lot of desktops for users? is there any easier way? i've tried to push on the server but new desktop usually under workgroup having problem to connect to the domain.
